Today we double up on special occasions seeing that the two are so similar. In 1971, the Walt Disney World Resort opened the Magic Kingdom in Bay Lake, Florida and EPCOT eleven years later.
In the 60's, Walt Disney made plans to make a new version of Disney Land in Florida including what was known as the Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow (EPCOT) to serve as a base for new innovations in city living. Though Walt passed away in 1966, the "Florida Project" moved on and was renamed from Disney World to Walt Disney World by Walt's brother Roy as a way of honoring the legend.
The Walt Disney World Resort is the most visited vacation resort in the world, opening it's gates to 52.5 million guests annually. The 27,258 acre resort is home to four theme parks, two water parks, 27 themed resort hotels, four golf courses, one camping resort, one residential area, and additional recreational and entertainment venues including Downtown Disney.
Happy Birthday to the Place Where Dreams Come True!
